How to change your Google Play country

1 min read · Updated 2026-09-05

What the country controls

Play shows apps and prices for the country on your Google payments profile. An app "not available in your country" is not blocked by Google; the developer chose the markets. Changing country changes the catalogue, prices and the currency you are charged in.

The official method

  1. Be physically in the new country (Play checks your network location) and have a payment method issued there.
  2. Play Store › profile picture › Settings › General › Account and device preferences › Country and profiles.
  3. The new country appears when Play detects you are there. Tap it and add the payment method.
  4. The switch completes within 24 hours. You can change country only once a year.

Google Play balance, subscriptions and some purchases do not transfer between countries, and a new payments profile is created.

Without meeting the requirements

  • A second Google account created while connected to the target country's network keeps its own country. Sign in to Play with it to browse that catalogue. Purchases need a local payment method.
  • The app's APK from a mirror installs regardless of country, provided the app itself does not check your location. This is the usual answer for a free app that is region-locked at the store level, and the version pages here list every build. Server-side region checks inside the app are unaffected.
  • VPN alone does not change the country of an existing account, but it can let a new account pick the country during creation.

Undoing a change

The same screen shows the previous country; switching back counts as the yearly change. Support can reset the limit in some cases when a change was made by mistake.
